The science of specificity tells us that sport specific drills should not simulate the exact sporting movement but rather elicit adaptations that enhance the specific metabolic and or neuromuscular properties and abilities that are involved in the sport (or in life for that matter). Most sports involve movements that ground-based, explosive, multi-joint, and multi-planar.
In accordance with the above mentioned principle, the following pages show a series of drills performed that incorporate the use of Flexbands® and are designed to elicit transferable neuromuscular adaptations that can be highly specific to the sports mentioned.
The degree of specificity (sport specific, position specific, training period specific) can be determined by the coach or trainer who can modify the drills in regards to speed of motion, range of motion, metabolic demands, and load.
Bottom line: The only way to become better at a given sport is to practice that sport. However, the use of Flexbands® in exercises and drills that improve specific athletic capabilities will positively affect performance in most sporting events.
